It's my best result to date!! I am still gutted there was no double elimination, as I didn't get the easiest of seeds for the single, and I did fancy improving my result in the double:) Hope we get more wind and waves in Tenerife! Read on for the details of the event :)
I've arrived in Pozo a month prior the event to make sure I get enough training done to get used to the tiny size sails we always use there. I also just finished few months work in the office in Australia with no wind for the last 2.5 months. so I was eager to get on the water again!

During our month in GC we got almost 3 weeks on the water with 2 sessions a day.. and that's a lot of sailing when you are on 3.4 or 3.0 every day. I was really happy with how my training went, I started to land backloops really consistenly on 3.4 and even 3.0. I got over the fear of forwards on 3.0 as well, practiced my other jumps and most of all really dialed in on the waves on my new AMAZING Simemr Flywave 69l. Having a board this size (finally) made a massive difference for my control and I had some of the best waves in Pozo ever this year :)

I felt optimistic and ready to take on the challenge of the first PWA event of the year, especially that I have done some extra treatment to my injured foot, and despite the fact that my toes still don't bend and my ankle has limitations in manuverability, all in all my foot definitelly got most flexible it's been since the surgery (thanks Deborah for all the massages).

It's been 3 long years I have waited for the Pozo event to happen for me. First year I've broke my foot just before the event, second there was no wind, and this year I really hoped we will finally get proper Pozo conditions with nucklear winds and some nice waves!
I wont lie that I am quite dissapointed about what we got :P Marginal wind and pretty much flatness unless you were lucky with at what point of the tide they ran your heat. The only good day was Sunday, and still some heats were ran in highest tide when Pozo pretty much looked like a lake.

I always thought this is competition though - it's about making the most out of conditions you get, but I must say that on this occasion some of the heats still remain controversial and I think they should have been simply cancelled and resailsed at different time (both man and woman) as they were based around luck of getting a wave or not - and that's not what the competition should be all about. I've spent quite some time freesailing that week, and definitelly had more waves when we were on hold then during actual heats.

My first heat of the competition for example was ran in the highest tide of the day. With spring tides - that's a really high tide! And least that day was still wave'y. We sailed the heat to the end and when we came back it got cancelled for some reason. It was quite strange and even more so dissapointing for me at first as on the live scoring I won both on waves and jumps. But even though that ment loosing a good result, I thought to myself that the conditions were far from perfect and I wouldn't want to loose in this stuff myself, so it's only fair to resail it..

How little did I know at the time! When we resailed it the next day, the conditions were even worse! I managed to get some small ramps on the way out to secure my 2 jumps - TT and forwad (with no chance of sticking a backloop), but didn't really get any waves to ride on in those 14 minutes.. and 14 min is a long time. I squeezed in a small stalled forward in the end and managed to get the highest scoring in that heat and secure the win.

I though this heat had hardly any waves, but then my next and most important heat on the fallowing day (when we already knew there is no chance for the double elimination in Pozo) to break into top 4 (against Steffi Wahl - 3rd seed) had EVEN WORSE conditions. Till this day I simply can not believe they ran it in the lowest tide of the day (again spring tides) with absolutely no waves. It was enough to wait abother half an hour to get anything.. I actually watched the heat back as my Dad recorded it for me (thanks:) and realised that in 14 minutes I actually did everything I could with what I got, but came out unlucky. I didn't get any ramps to jump, but managed to land a dry flat water forward and a TT somehow! There was not a chance for a backloop yet again and I got one tiny wave in the entire heat still scoring 5.5 on it. On top of that they didn't give us the privalage of running woman on woman due to less then marginal conditions and with 4 of us on the water at the same time and only 2-3 waves coming through in those 14 minuetes, some girls had to miss out. To be honest I simply feel like I wasn't given a fair chance and am truely dissapointed, as I don't think it had much to do with showing off your skills, rather your luck. This is not to take away from Steffi Wahl. who as always sailled really good! She herself  said after the heat that the conditions were ridiculous, but I am personally impressed with her finding some waves and making out so much out of the "nothing" we sailed in, and am even happier that she got the podium place in the end!:) Big congratulations - it was long time coming!:)
For me, getting waves that weren't even knee high in my heat is just not what I hoped for or consider fair after hard year's training. In the end it doesn't matter if you loose a heat if you know you sailed your best.. if you struggle to find even one wave to ride on however, it just leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

But hey, that's life and that's competition. It's time to move on and hope for something better in Tenerife :)
Looking at the bright side, I've learned that some of my bigger forwards (that weren't even big as there was no waves;) scored 7pt, and my TTs scored really good too. Even though I felt I didn't have one proper wave in this entire competition my riding was getting good points as well.
I am still confident in what I can do when conditions are there, so I am really looking forward to Tenerife event, and hope we will get wind and waves. Also, I do hope we will get enough conditions for the double elimination, as if you get hard seeding (I get one of top 3 ladies quite early in the event every time) you have no chance to come back.

I am still super stoekd about getting top 5 in the world especially with the conditions we got to sail in! :) Now I am hoping I can at least repeat my result in Cabezo. My new kit is great and I have a great training partner - my  Simmer team-mate Sarah Bibby (who also sailed great and had every chance to finish at least top 5, but got hard seeding drawing Steffi already in the first round). All we need now is wind, waves and a bit more luck;)

Right now I am in Tenerife and we've had one wobble around session with no more wind so far. I hope that this is a good sign and means that the wind will come during the competition time again!:) Especially that a record number of ladies (23!) entered the event! Woop woop! :D

Thanks again to everyone cheering for me and thanks for all the nice messages about both my sailing and commentating on the live stream - it really keeps me motivated! :) Special thanks to my parents and Ben for stressing thorugh and keeing their fingers crossed for me! I couldn't ask for more support!
