Two weeks round trip from OZ to UK to compete on the BWA tour once again?! Why not? ;) It was hectic, but well worth it. Read on for the details of both tour stops: Wales and Ireland.

I had a hell of a trip to UK - or more like a trip from hell! I've almost missed a flight, have been attacked by some random dude on the airport - and had to hit him so he'd let me go! Don't even ask!
I organised my mom to come and meet me at the Proffitts for a weekend as well, as I hardly get to see her, so that was great. Unfortunitely, it also turned out that my Dad needs a surgery so I decided to fly and see him in Poland for the one day I had left before the comps started. By the time I came back to UK and we drove to Wales, I was pretty jetlaged and knackered. But there was no time to rest as.. the wind and waves were there!! :D

Frist BWA tour stop of the year was Rhosneigr, Wales.
I must say that I have mixed feelings about this event, because despite sailing a really bad heat in the final, I did sail my best heat ever in the semi! Hence even though I came 3rd there - which was definitely not what was aiming for - I was really happy with my sailing in the earleir rounds.

I actually sailed the best heat in my life in the semifinals. I've landed two perfect backloops, clean forward and got two sick waves in the 12 minutes! It felt amazing to know that if I put my mind into it I can sail a heat like this! I
t was the best scoring heat in ladies fleet this competition, so I was very happy:)
Competition in the end though, is not about how good of a heat you are capable of sailing, but about sailing a good heat when you need to. And unfortunately, I got stuck in the final trying more then I needed, and that costed me the win. Instead of going for basic moves first, I overdid it and got a bit unlucky on a few very close backloop landings. All the other girls at the same time were ripping. I was especially impressed with Sarah Kellet's style on both tacks (on the starboard tack day she bit both me and Amanda), but there really wasn't anyone competing who I think I could of had an easy heat against. The level in the BWA is high at the moment and mistakes like mine (not getting a second jump in) cost a lot.
It was good to see so many girls sailing to such standard though! In the end I finished 3rd behind Sarah Kellet in 2nd and Amanda Beenen in 1st. Congratulations to them both :)

In pro fleet Ben came 3rd and was a bit gutted too as he sailed really well getting one or two 360s in each heat, but was a bit unlucky too. So we both left Rhossy quite gutted (not that 3rd is bad). At the same time we knew that it was nt our sailing that wasn’t good enough, but the heat strategy - and that's always easier to improve on!

Second BWA tour stop was Brandon Bay. Ireland.
We had a windless, but fun and sunny few days there. In fact as we had to leave Rhossy late at night, take the ferry and drive another 5h I was quite happy we didn't compete on day 1. The lack of wind gave me some time to finally get over the jetlag and self-disappointment too ;) We’ve enjoyed the sun, surfing and a few more days together with Ben before each of us had to travel different directions again. We actually thought that no competition will take place as the forecast didn't look promising. In the end, as always, Ireland delivered and we managed to run single eliminations for all fleets on the last day!

I have finished 2nd in Ireland for 2 years in the row, but each year I’ve learned more about competing in wobble and ride conditions, that we always seem to get there. This year I've managed to put all I've learned into good use.
It was quite windy on 4.7 and the training session was great. I felt good about how I was riding. Just before the semi final though, the wind started dropping, so I made a last minute decision to take a 5.0, hoping I won’t end up too overpowered. And PHEEW… that was lucky!! The wind really dropped and I was struggling to get going so much I missed quite a few waves. It was a wave that I managed to catch in the very last moment of the heat that got me through with I think what must of been a point or 2 advantage against Sarah Bibby. In the end it was me and Sarah Kellet advancing. Wow.. it was close one! I felt for Sarah, becasue I knew she also struggled to get going too. I didn’t think for long and rushed to the van to rig a 5.3 before my next heat. Big thanks to Sam Neal who helped me out and all together was a top caddy that day!

After a bit of a scare, I ended up sailing an awesome heat in the final! I just found Ben’s comment about it so I’ll just post that here:
In wobble and ride you have to be patient and it’s an easy thing to say but when the clock is ticking down, every one is catching waves and your wobbling out the back waiting for the set wave. It is really easy to bottle it and catch anything that moves.. And then be on the inside when the set comes. Well Sniady nailed it. Just waited and didn’t lose her head. Picked up the set waves and rode them really well with set up turns, carving turns and good smacks off the breaking sections!”

Thanks Ben!:* I must agree though. Rarely I feel so good about my heat. It was very refreshing to finally pull my emotions together, and just focus and do what I had to do. At one point after already scoring 2 good waves, when I knew only something bigger can up my score, I’ve spent 5minutes out the back! All this time I was watching the other 3 girls sailing in and out, in and out, catching many waves. It was stressful, but I made myself remember it’s not the quantity that matters, I knew it’s a final and I need big scores, and need to wait for a big set if I want to win.
My patience paid of and I got a real beauty in the end! I had heaps of speed and a sweet first turn on the open face of the wave
with nice spray, fallowed by a fin-out smack in the critical section and a lot of turns all the way to the beach. I had quite a long walk back up! I was so happy! I knew I finally managed to keep my head under control and that I sailed a really good heat. It didn’t even matter to me at that point if I won, although with how I sailed I expected a good result. It turned out that I did win and that both my waves were the highest scored runs in that heat! Stoked.

In turned out Ben won the single elimination in Pro Fleet as well so it was happy days for us:)
I think Ben also worked out how he has to sail to win heats after Rhossy, and was ripping! I think he won all of his heats and absolutely nailed the final, so I was a one proud girlfriend!

By the time we finished the single eliminations for all fleets, the wind died off completely. No double elimination was ran, so that meant both me and Ben were going home with gold medals! Actually all four of us staying in the same house won gold medals: Geoff in Masters, Ben in Pros, Matt in Amateurs and me in the Ladies! I think we have to rent the same house next year;)

For me it also meant that I got the yellow rashie back and am leading the BWA tour overall once again! Couldn’t think of a better start to the season. Looking forward to the PWA kicking off!:)

Just a quick BIG thanks to Simmer Style for the new BOARD that I received just a day before the first event. - it worked awesome - both in side on jumping at Rhossy as well as in down the line Ireland! Also really stoked about receiving a bigger quiver this year as well thanks to Hydrosfera's support - having the 5.0 and 5.3 in the bag was really handy in the wobble and ride conditions we always seem to get in Ireland. And massibe thank you to Farrel O'shea for the on-time delivery!

Also thanks to Mystic International, Powerex International, GoPro and and all the people who make these events happen - especially Nigel Nacho Tracy. See you in October!
